Purple waves

This is my dream... purple waves as far as the eye can see. Nope, not in Provence, France. Not in Sequim, Washington. Right in the Midwest. Right here in Wisconsin!!

My family and I dream of owning a lavender farm - Wisconsin's very first lavender farm, that is!  There are several herb farms around.  Some of them even grow lavender. However, none of them specialize in lavender.  That is our intention.

I've found a supplier for 2.5" pots of lavender.  I'd thought of starting from seed, but I've come to understand that seed may not always be true to variety and it is famously difficult to propagate lavender from seed.

Right now, with a couple of feet of snow on the ground, we're selecting varieties of lavender and looking for land.

The land seems to  be a bit more difficult than I had hoped.  It needs to drain well, not have been used for commercial crops in several years and location, location, location!  Hopefully, we will be successful in finding the perfect parcel before spring.  If not, we have a back up plan ;)

I'll be posting once a week or so, until the work begins. Once we start ordering and planting, I'll be on more often, journaling our dream.
